Meet The Wonder-Woman Who Turned Silver πŸ₯ˆ into Gold for Nigeria

In what turned out to be one of the greatest relay races ever in the history of athletics, Omolara Omotosho- Ogunmakinju staged a spectacular come-back that will remain evergreen in the memory of Nigerians.

Born on the 25th of May in Akure, Ondo State, Omolara specializes in the 400 metres and has over the years represented Nigeria at different stages including the 2016 Summer Olympics before she took a break from athletics to start her family. After some years and two kids, she decided it was time to go back to her first love – Athletics.

Omolara Ogunmakinju who is also a Harding University (USA) NCAA Division II freshman became the first Lady Bison ever to earn All-America honors in the indoor 400meters this season.

Fast forward to the 2023 African Games being her first major outing with Team Nigeria since she got back on the tracks; representing Nigeria alongside her teammates- Emmanuel Ojeli, Patience George, and Sikiru Adeyemi at the 4x400m mixed relay race finals, Ogunmakinju astonished the crowd by running a pulsating anchor leg that helped Team Nigeria win the Gold Medal, setting a new African Record (AR) of 3:13.26.

With 30m to go and trailing Botswana, Omolara did the unthinkable by chasing down her opponent, eating up an entire 15-metre deficit and in the process turned a potential Silver Medal Race into Gold Medal for her team, just at the nick of time.

That β€œeureka” moment sent wild celebration to her fellow athletes and Nigerians World over with the video of her feat going viral. This achievement speaks to the resilience, doggedness, persistence, tenacity and the never say never Naija spirit of Omolara and our athletes.

Omolara showed pure World Class by that anchor race and everyone wont stop talking about her.πŸ’šπŸ€πŸ’š
